There are many ways to approach the home buying process. Some people start with their budget and make decisions based around it. Others may first think about features they want, and then decide on a price. Either way, at some point you have to start making choices on the things you want in a home. Here are a few helpful questions to ask yourself when determining what you want in a home.
What is in your Price Range?
Getting a good estimate of your housing budget will better help determine what you can afford. The amount you are able to spend can answer a lot of questions, because it could put some limitations on the size, location and types of features you desire.
What Type of Neighborhood Do You Desire?
Your home is important, but equally important is the neighborhood and town in which you reside. Every neighborhood has pros and cons you can start weighing. Some things to think about in regards to a neighborhood are:
- How secluded is it?
- What do the surrounding homes look like?
- How close is it to businesses?
- What type of schools are there?
These questions will give you a better idea on what type of neighborhood you want to live in. Depending on your personality, these answers can vary greatly. It’s all about what suits your needs.
What Size Home Do You Need?
Size matters when it comes to your home. Depending on how large your family is, you may require a bigger house. Though, it is becoming more common for people to scale down and live simplistically. Questions to consider in regard to size are:
- How many square feet do you require?
- How many bedrooms and baths do you want?
- Do you want a single story home?
- Are you planning to expand your family in the future?
What Features Do You Want?
Once you know the budget, neighborhood and size of the house you want, start thinking about the smaller features that come with a home. What do you want a home to have that you need? Maybe it’s a pool or garage. These are the accommodations that make life more convenient.
