Hardwood floors can be notoriously difficult to upkeep. But, learning how to clean your hardwood floors is the best way to protect your investment! When learning to care for your hardwood floors, there are a few tips to keep in mind:
Make Sure You Are Sweeping or Vacuuming Regularly
If you have oak, bamboo, pine, or other forms of wood floors, make sure you are cleaning them consistently to remove dust and daily grime. The best way to care for your hardwood floors is through consistent upkeep! If you are using the vacuum, make sure you invest in a vacuum with a “hard floor” setting. Remember, before you are able to clean your floors thoroughly, the dirt must be removed either through sweeping or vacuuming.
Mop Frequently
Typically, the hardwood floors in your home are used often! If you have placed hardwood floors in the kitchen or bathroom, they are going through a lot of wear. These areas need to be cleaned more often, sometimes weekly! After sweeping or vacuuming, be sure to wet mop your hardwood floors. Avoid DIY wood floor cleaners that contain vinegar, as it will damage the finish.
Protect Your Floors
Another way to invest in your floors is to protect them before there is damage! You can do so by placing door mats in high traffic areas, or by investing in a furnish. Remember to use a fresh coat of finish every three to five years!
