Today, we will be taking a look at another area a bit further south of Encinitas which we talked about last time: Del Mar Real Estate.
Del Mar is a city much smaller than Encinitas in population. The population of Del Mar according to the 2010 census is 4,161 and the total city area is 1.8 square miles. Del Mar is Spanish for “of the sea” or “by the sea” because it is located right on the Pacific Ocean which provides temperate and beautiful weather, typically between 60°F and 85°F, as well as absolutely incredible and beautiful views. In fact it is so well known for it’s beaches that in a Time magazine spread on the “100 Greatest Beaches in the World” the 15th Street Beach ranked in the top 10, ranking at #4! Additionally North Beach, which is affectionately known by locals as “Dog Beach,” though it did not make it into the Top 100, did receive an honorable mention. Having the #4 ranked beach in the world lends for some amazing views and amazing times.
Del Mar is also home to some wonderful attractions and events as well. The San Diego County Fair is held every year at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. At the 2011 San Diego County Fair there was an attendance record set at 1,412,113 people! The 2011 San Diego County Fair was in June and went from the 10th of June to the 4th of July. The events included: national music acts such as Grand Funk Railroad, REO Speedwagon, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Bruno Mars and Janelle Monae, and Melissa Etherige to the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge to Monster Trucks, a Demolition Derby, Pro Wrestling and so much more. The best part is that you get the chance to have a lot of activities going on in your town and when it is all over you get to go back to a population of less than 5,000 that is quiet, peaceful and beautiful. For more information on the San Diego County Fair and what happened in 2011 or what will be happening in 2012 visit www.sdfair.com.
There is also a wonderful state park in Del Mar, the Torrey Pines State Park. The state park is home to the, you guessed it, Torrey Pines (also known as Pinus Torreyana) which are the rarest pine tree in the entire United States. The Torrey Pines only grow here in the state park and on Santa Rosa Island off the coast near Santa Barbara. It is a perfect place to go hiking and exploring an extremely unique part of our nation. If you would like to get more information on the Torrey Pines State Park just visit the official homepage here www.torreypine.org to get more details on hours, admission, history and more.
Del Mar also offers an abundance of fine dining and shopping for everyone including men’s, women’s, and children’s boutiques as well as having well known chain clothing stores like Banana Republic and Chico’s and specialty shops with interesting objects to purchase. For more information on all that Del Mar has to offer you can easily check out the city of Del Mar’s homepage at www.delmar.ca.us.
