Home buying research has become easier than ever before. The Internet is filled with ways in which you can start researching potential new homes and the neighborhoods that accompany them. Today, I wanted to give some insight in how to research your new home.
Start with an Expert Real Estate Agent
There are a lot online sources for buying and selling homes, but you will still want to work with an expert real estate agent. A professional and expert real estate agent will be well versed in home buying. They too care about their reputation, so they will be cautious of what type of homes they are willing to help sell. They will be knowledgeable about the home, and willing to bridge that gap between buyer and seller.
Visit and Visit Again
If you are working with a real estate agent, or if you are trying to purchase through the owners, be sure to schedule an initial visit. This will give you a good idea and feel for the interior and exterior of the household. However, you should also try visit the surrounding neighborhood at different points throughout the day. This will give you a better understanding how busy the neighborhood gets and what type of people are living within the community.
Utilize the Internet to Your Advantage
A lot of research can be done using the internet. For instance, websites like Zillow, Redfin and Trulia will give you a better understanding of the price range of homes in the area you are looking to buy. They will also give you an idea of the property taxes in the area.
Doing a Google search of your address will give you a better understanding of what’s in the area like businesses, stores and schools. Utilizing a search engine can also help you find reviews of the town and neighborhood you are looking to move into.
One thing you may also want to consider is your commute. One way to do this is utilize a GPS App on your phone or your computer. Type in the address of the home you are looking to buy as the starting point and your place of employment as the end point during the time you normally commute to work. Many will be able to give you live updates of the traffic patterns, and also provide alternative routes. Seeing how you will be doing this a majority of the week, it can help you get an idea of how long you will spend in your vehicle.
