Since its opening in 1928, the La Paloma Theatre has become a historic Encinitas icon. The Spanish Colonial-style theater has maintained its classic swagger for nearly a century. Encinitas residents, along with members of the Encinitas 101 Main Street board, would like to see the historic city staple live to pass the 100-year benchmark. In light of recent interest from the theater’s property owners, the city is now exploring options for funding restorations, according to the Encinitas Advocate.
The 88-year old theater is one of the few remaining single-screen cinemas still in operation today. Given its age, the La Paloma Theatre is in need of cosmetic updates, at the least. However, the theater’s original character will persevere.
