According to a 2015 Pew Research Center report, nearly two thirds of Americans own a smartphone, and more and more are beginning to depend on these mobile devices for obtaining information on—well, just about everything.
44% of smartphone owners have used their phone to look up real estate listings or information about a place to live:
- 54% of 18-29 year olds
- 51% of 30-49 year olds
- 26% of those over age 50
In addition, smartphone users of all ages use their phones to stay updated with and learn about community events:
- 56% use their phone to at least occasionally learn about community activities, and 18% do so “frequently”
- 67% use their phone to share pictures, video, or commentary on community events
- 68% use their phone to follow along with breaking news events
This information shows not only the importance of online listings for sellers, but also how emerging technology has completely changed the way homeowners and buyers search for information about their community. Below are great online resources for potential homebuyers to find out more about the area in which they’re looking to move:
- NeighborhoodScout has the latest real estate, crime, and school reports for neighborhoods in every state.
- HomeFacts contains neighborhood statistics and information on over 100 million homes in the U.S.
- GreatSchools hosts reviews by both students and parents of the schools in any given neighborhood, as well as test scores and other useful information.
