The City of Encinitas is located along six miles of ocean coastline, and is approximately 30 miles North of San Diego. With an approximate population of 60,000, Encinitas is noted for coastal beaches, cliffs, flat-topped coastal areas, steep mesa bluffs and rolling hills. The city became incorporated in 1986, drawing together the communities of Encinitas, Cardiff-By-The Sea, Olivenhain, and Leucadia.
Once known as the Flower Capital of the world, many areas of Encinitas were formerly greenhouse properties. There are many area beaches to enjoy surfing, kite boarding, boogey boarding, or sun bathing. The City of Encinitas offers many community activities such as the Junior Lifeguard Program.
The downtown Encinitas area offers a variety of wonderful street side restaurants, shops, and the famous La Paloma Theatre. Quail Botanical Gardens is a beautiful oasis to visit with an Amazon Rainforest and offers the largest display of bamboo in the world. The gardens of the Self Realization Center are a serene beautiful place to sit and meditate, overlooking the ocean in a garden-like setting.
The Encinitas Ranch Golf Course, offers championship 18 hole par 72 course with panoramic ocean views. It is a public course and has five tees available lending to golfers of all abilities.
